Don Jons Lodge

So I solely attended a yoga class. I had decided to go for a specific style of class, over another studio. But after paying, I was led up the studio and it wasn’t until another student asked the teacher to give an intro to the style (because it was her first time), were we notified that it wasn’t the class we had signed up for.

Apparently the teacher couldn’t attend so the present teacher was substituting. Now the class and facilities were fine, and I know there will always be last minute changes but to not be notified until after I had paid, and sat down on the mat just shows a profound lack of respect for the students time. It makes you feel the schedule has been put together in a haphazard way, which I don’t think it was intended to have been. If it wasn’t for the other student who asked, I don’t think we would’ve been told.

It’s just not ok to think that any old class will do. Students take the time and effort to plan their schedules and day around the classes too. It’s worth thinking about.

The manager was unfriendly. They don’t accept card and ended up charging more than was indicated on our reservation.
In general the manager doesn’t do more than the bare minimum and the only thing she cares about is to keep the cost down.

Had an amazing yoga class today with Belu. This was head and shoulders above any other yoga class I’ve been too. Thank you, Belu!

Had a fantastic yoga class at Don Jons this morning! The yoga space is beautiful. Raised, open on three sides, lots of trees nearby. I did an 8am class, and the noise from the main road was not too bad. It might be more prominent later in the day.

Will definitely do yoga here again!

If you are thinking about taking the surfing lesson here, think twice! The surfing instructor is impatient and the surfing board is old and funky. $60 for one-hour private surfing lesson was not only not worth it, but also put off my enthusiasm for surfing. You will definitely be better off by taking the surfing lesson somewhere else! Worst surfing class I have ever taken in Costa Rica. I could be bias and the tide might not be the best for beginners, but the surfing instructor said it was a good timing. Profit-oriented surfing lesson is definitely your last choice.

Amazing atmosphere, definitely not “just about the profit” place and has it’s own spirit. Highly recommended!

I really enjoyed the stay, great location, very friendly owner, super cool treehouse! What a nice atmosphere there with all the wood. I’ll definitely come back!

Was there for a month and I have nothing to say, super friendly, the staff is really cool and the people too, the location is perfect you have everything at 2 minutes walk. I would recommend it to every solo traveler that wanna make friends and have a good experience.

Great vibe and best place to meet people! The outdoor kitchen needs upgrading and the dorms are a bit run down, but the atmosphere really makes up for it. There are two yoga spaces, a treehouse with hammocks and a day bed to hang out in.

The place is not recommendable at all.the dorm smelled really badly because there was a not well cleaned super tiny bathroom in the dorm. There was almost no light in the room and the bunkbeds were awful. The kitchen was just badly equiped and really dirty. Everywhere at the the whole place were cat and dog hairs because they ran around on the tables and even climbed up to everything you can sit on.

Staff was friendly but that was the only good thing about this place.

Alquilamos el apartamento en un Airbnb, para 5 personas, los apartamentos están equipados aunque tuvimos problemas con el aire acondicionado (no servían) solo los ventiladores, pero los anfitriones y el lugar eran tranquilos y muy amables, fue perfecto para lo que buscábamos

Un endroit parfaitement bien placé, avec des belles chambres en bois, malheureusement les draps troué et sale, déplus le gérant était arrogant avec nous a notre arrivé et hypocrite pendant notre séjour, n’empêche le reste du personnel est très professionnel.

Best hostel in Santa Teresa. Jon and all of the staff are super amazing. Comfortable beds and clean rooms and the A/C is a bonus. Super chill vibe and beautiful hostel in an amazing location. Stay here when you go to Santa

This is one is the coolest place in Santa Teresa. Jon has this wonderful energy that feels welcoming to everyone. Yoga on the rooftop is great. Staying in the tree house especially when it rains is magical.
I would say this is not for those looking for materially luxurious accommodation. The wifi is there but comes and goes like the waves lol. However, if you want to meet people that can change you positively, this is the place to come.

Don Jons is a very special and unique place joining different types of accommodation, people and energies. The first part consists of a hostel offering basic accommodation to budget travelers meanwhile the tree houses are more exclusive and more expensive. On the top of the trees houses yoga classes are being held but it's hammocks offering best relaxation also if there are no classes held.
The hostel part is obviously a bit old and especially the common kitchen could get a deep renovation. The tree houses look much better in shape though.
I had a great time there, met amazing and very interesting people and it felt like home after 2 weeks. If you are looking for a special place then you should try this place.

After a number of hit or miss places in Santa Theresa, some friends and I finally found this killer spot. It's pretty central, so we could easily walk just about anywhere. Tons of healthy food options nearby, along with a lot of other health-minded guests and hosts. I think I made the most friends at this place just hanging out in the main front area and wandering out to surf or go out. I will definitely be coming back here, it feels like family!

I stayed at 13 different places while traveling through Ecuador and Costa Rica and Don Jon's was undoubtedly my favorite place. The open-air common area with good furniture and hammocks everywhere is a great place to hang out and relax. Jon and the rest of his staff are very helpful and accommodating; they set up surf lessons and ATV rentals for us. We stayed in a spacious, comfortable private room in the tree-house area. Everyone staying here is so relaxed and happy, and it's almost impossible not to be at ease and in a good mood. This place is amazing! Highly recommend.

An amazing and very holistic comfortable stay with a surreal vibe that elevates your mind and psyche to other levels; you breathe peace and tranquility like nowhere else in the world. An eco friendly place with excellent service among other things!? ‍️‍️️

I have stayed across the world. Many hostels. Nothing can compare to this place. The main man Jon, his family, they are all the perfect people. The best environment anyone could ask for. Looking for fun, they got it, looking to chill, they got it! Best place I have stayed at and would never call it a hostel. It’s a Hotel. Everyone that comes here misses out on not staying here.
