Nuestra familia visitó Playa Grande en febrero de 2023 y un buen amigo recomendó a Marco y su compañía para clases de surf para nuestros hijos. Optamos por una lección privada para nuestros hijos, de 5 y 11 años. Cuando los inscribí, asumí que tendrían la oportunidad de atrapar algunas olas al final de la lección. Me impresionó lo increíble que era nuestro instructor, y las chicas pudieron atrapar ola tras ola durante más de una hora. Fue espectacular ver cómo los trataban con tanta paciencia y amabilidad. Si no hubiera sido nuestro penúltimo día allí, ¡los habríamos registrado para más lecciones! ¡Ciertamente este fue uno de los mejores momentos de nuestro viaje! ¡La próxima vez, registraremos a toda nuestra familia! Pura Vida!

Marcos, the owner, was my surf instructor (he was recommended to me by a local). He was very knowledgeable, friendly and capable. His ability to read the ocean and choose appropriate waves for a beginner was obvious. He stressed safety first and taught different skills that are needed and have feedback with each trial. The highlight was that he was incredibly present and focused, helping me with each attempt to catch a wave. Overall an excellent experience. Loved it so much I went back for another lesson!
(For reference, I am a 51 year old first time surfer who was a bit afraid of the ocean and it was fantastic).

We did a 2 h surf lesson for our two daughters and their two friends (all ages 12-14). Two kids per instructor. They had never surfed and are of average athleticism and NOT fearless! Within 20-30 mins they all were able to get up on the boards and actually surf. I could not believe it! They had a blast and it was so fun to watch them.

The instructors were incredibly friendly and competent. The staff at You Are Costa Rica are also very friendly.

My teenage daughter and I booked a lesson with Marco. He is an excellent, patient instructor who tailors his teaching style to the needs of the individual. As A 50-year-old I was a bit apprehensive about learning to surf. I never expected that I would stand up on the board on my first try! Marco’s instruction is excellent and he made the whole experience fun! The price of the group lessons ($40 per person in cash or $45 per person credit card) was very reasonable, especially considering that Marco provided transportation to and from our hotel, surfboards and rash guards. I recommend you bring more water than you think you need. Surfing can make you very thirsty. I had so much fun learning to surf with Marco and would recommend this experience without hesitation. It definitely exceeded my expectations and if we had more time here in Playa Grande, I would definitely book a second lesson. Marco’s company (youareCostaRica) also offers other kinds of experiences and tours. After getting to know Marco, I would imagine that anything he has invested himself in is going to be a wonderful experience. This was definitely one of the highlights of our time in Costa Rica. My family and I had an excellent experience with surf lessons from you are Costa Rica. The instructor was great and we were all able to catch lots of waves. The equipment was in good shape. I appreciated that they gave us rash guards and set up a beach canopy with beach chairs for the folks that stayed in shore. It was also awesome to get some fresh drinks back at the shops once we finished. Overall, great expertise and I would totally recommend them.

Marcos and Johan were amazing! We had the best time learning from them and eventually surfing with them! This is a MUST-DO! Also, buy a rash guard from them! They are the best i have ever tried. If you want to learn to surf, they are the absolutely best! They taught our whole family, age 6-36! Our favorite part of the trip for sure!

My family and I had the best time! I have taken lessons before in Hawaii and Marco did a far better job. Additionally, Tamarindo is very busy and you have to share the beach with to many people. Playa Grande and You are Costa Rica is the BEST DECISION WE MADE FOR SURF LESSONS! My whole family stood up and caught a wave on the first go with Marco. Perk: fresh bagels and bagel sandwiches for purchase on sight. Yum! You will not be disappointed with You Are Costa Rica.

Tout d'abord, l'accueil était très sympa, et il y avait beaucoup de propositions de sorties!
Rendez-vous fixé au lendemain matin à 6H, nous étions un petit groupe de 8 personnes et nous avons eu la chance de passer 2 heures en compagnie d'un guide passionné par son travail, et surtout son pays!
Cette promenade, était à la fois calme et reposante et à la fois riche!
Facile à trouver sur le bord de route, je recommande vivement!

This was one of my wife's bucket list things to do, go surfing while in Costa Rica and Marco's helped her dream come true. He was patient with both of us and really enjoyed being with us while we learned to #surfincostrica.
