Frijoles Locos Surf Shop, Lessons and Rentals

Alquilé una tabla de surf hace un par de días. Tenían una variedad para elegir, sin embargo, todos estaban en bastante mal estado y a todos les faltaban aletas, por lo que las barajaban entre las tablas. La tabla que alquilé tenía una aleta suelta, así que tuve que volver al taller para ajustarla. Definitivamente recomendaría alquilar en Tamarindo en lugar de aquí.

Habiendo encontrado este negocio en Google, recientemente me comuniqué con el propietario Drew por correo electrónico y le pregunté si tenía tablas de SUP a la venta. Él respondió que no, pero que tenía un moldeador de tablas en San José que podía hacer una tabla personalizada. Drew me ayudó a diseñar el tablero perfecto. Funcionó maravillosamente en su viaje inaugural a principios de esta semana. Realmente feliz con el servicio que me brindó Drew.

Tuve una gran mañana en el agua. Las lecciones valen la pena si eres principiante y quieres aprender. He navegado varias veces pero mi pareja no. ¡Ambos aprendimos mucho y nos sentimos muy cómodos en el agua! La playa es tranquila y hermosa. ¡No habría ido a esta playa sin esta lección! Altamente recomendado.

Navegué con esta empresa cada dos días durante una semana mientras estuve en Costa Rica. Me trajeron todo bien, hablaban muy bien inglés y se aseguraron de que subiera a las olas. Gran vibra, educación y energía. Los usaré nuevamente con seguridad.

Tuvimos una excelente lección privada con Rodrigo y pudimos levantarnos y coger muchas olas. El instructor tenía un gran conocimiento de la zona, recomendaciones de seguridad y experiencia en surf. ¡Verdaderamente una experiencia apasionante y satisfactoria!

6 stars for this surf shop. Drew was able to help me get up on a surfboard with no experience. My 12 year old son had a blast. The waves on Playa Grande were perfect. If you're looking for a surf shop to help you explore surfing, this is it!

What a great shop. Super friendly and accommodating. Good selection of boards to rent from beginner to advanced in a range of styles. Rented boards for our ten day stay. My boys took a surf lesson, one of which was first time surfing and now loves it. Great staff, Rodrigo and Natalia were awesome.

5 stars for Panna our surf instructor. My 9 year old and I had a blast catching waves thanks to his expertise. It was my son’s first time surfing, he fell in love (too bad we live in MN)!

Meeting terrific people is one of the best reasons to travel. The crew at Frijoles are wonderfully helpful, warm and friendly. I rented a board for a couple of hours at a great price. They even took time to wax it for me!
The shop is modern, clean and well stocked.

Our instructor Aitor taught us beginners with great patience and humanity.
Great team of ladies in the Surf Shop as well, which stocks very good apparel.

We reserved surfboards ahead of
time, and the shop confirmed our choices. But when we arrived, they said they gave the boards to someone else, sorry about your luck! No effort to make it right or compensate us, only “we don’t give refunds”. We were stuck with inferior boards, one with a loose fin which then fell out of the board. Then they said we have to pay for the fin repair! Lame. And their prices for beachwear are outrageous. Don’t buy gear here.

We had so much fun with the instructors at Frijoles Locos. They were laid back yet professional at the same time! Wish we had more time for a few more sessions. Can’t wait to return!

Great communication for booking lessons and SUCH nice instructors! My girls are five and seven years old, never touched a surfboard. They had Justin and Eli for instructors and both were excellent at teaching them at their levels as well as making sure they were comfortable and having fun. Both of my kids wanted to go back a third day for more lessons because they loved it so much. Really an excellent experience here!

Can't say enough about this amazing place. Despite much confusion with trying to travel during Covid the concierge booking team was so accommodating in our constant changing schedule and plans. Once we arrived the entire team was nothing but fantastic with our family. They went above and beyond to take care of all our needs and set up all the little extras which made our trip so special. Eli was the perfect surf instructor and had both our 4 and 6 year old up and surfing on day 1. He even got them doing cool tricks and at one point had them surf the same board at the same time. How cool! We also stayed at one of the Frijoles condos and it was a perfect spot above the surf shop. The kids absolutely loved the pool and the unit was plenty spacious and very well maintained. Nice and quiet which made mornings and evenings on the large patio so enjoyable. Can't wait to come back. Honestly it was like leaving family!

This is a great surf shop. They’ve got everything you need whether you’re a beginner surfer, or a traveling pro. They have top surf brands and lots of local items for sale. Plus board rentals. I had a long chat with one of the owners, Drew - a very nice guy and from the same area of VA/NC as myself. Hit this place up on your next stop in Playa Grande!

Absolutely awesome little surf shop in Playa Grande. I damaged my board surfing down south and brought it in. They helped me fix my board right then and there. Got me back in the water the same day. Great people. Really cool shop.
